Scholarship Fund

It has long been a tradition in our church to give scholarships to graduating seniors who have been involved in our RE programs. In recent years, the RE Committee has done fundraisers to raise the money for these scholarships.  This year, however, without a building in which to hold events and with everyone’s resources stretched to meet the various challenges that have arisen since the fire, we have not been able to coordinate any fundraising events.

This spring, there are eight teens to whom we would like to give scholarships. This group of young people has been together in our programs for the past five years – beginning with the OWL (Our Whole Lives) program, continuing with COA (Coming of Age), and then working together in our church Youth Group for the past three years.  In the COA program, they made the pilgrimage to UUA headquarters in Boston.  During the first year of the Youth Group, they took a service trip to Washington, DC, to work with the Youth Service Opportunities Project.  They are now in their third year of working on their local community service project, Project: Bus Stop.  With their busy schedules, we don’t see them much on Sunday mornings, but they have been very visible in our community and are truly a UU Youth Group in the best sense.  This is a group of young people that we can all be very proud of.

To help raise the funds for this year’s scholarships, the Board has suggested that we have a special collection for that purpose. This collection will be taken at the Easter Sunday service on March 27.  If you will not be able to be at the service but would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, you may send your contribution to:
