About the Program
Welcome to our congregation-wide, year-long celebration of our sources and our faith. Each month, we will take up a major religion/religious diaspora – in addition to learning the tenets and practices, we will examine how they inform our Unitarian Universalism, and we will improve our interfaith competency as we develop better skills for respectful and expansive dialogue.
Unless otherwise noted, all programs are open to all ages – and to the public.
Children’s Religious Education
Most Sundays, the children will start with us in the service, then go to class to explore the month’s religion through lessons, crafts, experiments, and conversations. One Sunday each month, the children will stay with us for the entire service so we may worship and learn together.
Second Sunday Salon
Each month, we will gather with our coffee and snacks in the Parish Hall and spend 20-30 minutes examining the month’s religion through some of the history, sacred texts, beliefs, tenets, and practices.
12:15pm (after the service) in the Parish Hall
The monthly covenant and discussion group will consider major themes of the religion of the month.
First Tuesdays at 4pm at the Southold Free Library
Brunch Book Club
Join us twice a month as we read and discuss God Is Not One, by Stephen Prothero. Reading each month’s chapter is expected—also note we are taking the book out of order to match the topic schedule. For adults and teens over 16.
Second and fourth Saturdays at 9:30am at the Country Corner Café, second floor (55765 Main Road, Southold)
Theology on Tap
We will consider some of the big questions each religion raises—in a casual atmosphere, over drinks. Must be 21 or over.
Third Mondays at 7pm, North Fork Taps & Corks, (Feather Hill Plaza, 53345 Main Road, Southold)
Movies with Meaning
Join us for a potluck supper and a viewing of a feature film with some relation to the religion of the month. All ages welcome; however, note the MPAA ratings to ensure the month’s film is right for your child.
Third Fridays at 6pm, Location to be announced
Each month, look in the Free Spirit, on our website, and in your order of service for other ways to deepen your conversations. These will include book lists, opportunities to experience the rituals and celebrations of other religions, and more!
