Notes on Korea

Aiyoung, a resident of Southold, is a Steering Committee member of Women Cross DMZ, an international organization of women peace activists working to build peace on the Korean Peninsula.  Each year since crossing the DMZ in 2015, Aiyoung and her colleagues have traveled to South Korea.  Women Cross DMZ has been partnering with leading women peace makers there to call for negotiations to end the ongoing state of war on the Korean Peninsula with a formal Peace Treaty.  This year, they were welcomed by the administration of President Moon Jae-In.  He was ushered in by a peaceful Candlelight Revolution last spring that led to the overthrow of the previous president.  President Moon was sworn into office in May 2017 and enjoys strong support from the Korean people for his Ieadership on inter-Korean reconciliation and peace.
