Important Pastoral Message Regarding COVID-19 and Services

Dear Beloved Community,

As you are aware, the COVID-19 Virus has reached Southold Town and Greenport.

The UUA President, Rev. Susan Frederick-Davis, and the UUMA (the ministers association) have strongly urged all congregations to suspend in-person gathering.

Our scheduled speaker for this Sunday’s service, Rev. Ned Wight, has decided to cancel his planned appearance.

In addition, our hosts, the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, have decided to suspend their services for a period of two weeks.

For all these reasons, and out of an abundance of caution, we are canceling in-person worship for at least two weeks.

This is not an easy decision to make. We all would rather be in each other’s company during times of stress, but sometimes conditions demand that we find different ways to honor one another and stay in communication and covenant.

I am working on ways that those of us with online access can check in with one another and experience a different kind of worship service. There are numerous ways to do this and as soon as I have a time and method selected for an online gathering, I will send that info along.

For now, follow recommendations from the county and town regarding what to do if you are worried about symptoms. A lot of good information is now available on the Town of Southold’s website:

You can sign up for town alerts there.

I am available for phone and Skype Conversations, of course. Stay safe and look out for yourselves.
